The All Good Coffee pedigree stretches all the way back to Shepparton, a country town 200 kilometers north of Melbourne that’s better known for canned fruit than coffee.
That’s where All Good Coffee owners Greg and Brooke Brassil started out with a coffee van at local junior sports clubs. Their journey to downtown Melbourne took them via a cafe and a bar in Shepparton town and Addict Food & Coffee on a plum corner Fitzroy, one of the breakout cafes of 2014.
All good – espresso and filter coffee
But while Addict won plenty of praise for its tasty, fun and innovative brunch menu (especially those corn fritters), the focus at All Good is on the coffee.
Espresso brews use Market Lane Coffee’s seasonal espresso – a regularly changing blend that could be a mix of Guatemala La Soledad and Kenya Riakiberu, say – which delivers bright, fruity, clean short blacks and tangy milk coffees.
That’s supplemented by single origins from Small Batch Roasting Co, as either espresso or batch brew – maybe a rich Colombia Carlos Guananga with a sniff of sweet citrus.
The food menu lists six – count ’em – choices, from a 5 & Dime sesame bagel with cream cheese and chives to a slice of toasted sourdough loaded up with creamy feta cheese and apple and beetroot coleslaw.
Shortstop donuts and Noisette pastries round it out, and a seat by the big front window in the clean, cool space is the perfect spot to sip, savour and watch the city walk by at this downtown coffee bar.
